How to calculate your Allegro margin, formula and example

You calculate your Allegro margin from the price the buyer paid. Subtract the cost of goods, the Allegro commission, the Smart! fee or your shipping cost, packing, advertising and the cost of returns, then divide what is left by the revenue. A company registered for VAT counts every amount net, because the VAT on sales goes to the tax office and the VAT on cost invoices is deducted.

As of 28 October 2026, according to Allegro, the fees for sellers page and Allegro Smart! for sellers with a business account.

For a quick estimate on average shares of turnover, use the Allegro margin calculator. The exact margin of one sale you calculate item by item, as in the example below.

What is the formula for an Allegro margin?

First calculate the profit of one sale, then turn it into a percentage.

  • Profit = revenue - cost of goods - Allegro commission - Smart! fee or shipping cost - packing - advertising - cost of returns.
  • Margin = profit ÷ revenue × 100%.

Revenue is the price the buyer paid. When a buyer outside Smart! pays for delivery, that amount is revenue too, and the cost is what you pay the carrier.

Do not confuse margin with markup. Margin says what share of the price stays with you as profit. Markup says what share of the cost of goods the profit is, so it is profit ÷ cost of goods × 100%. When a sale makes a profit, its markup is always higher than its margin.

What reduces the amount that stays from a sale?

  • The cost of goods, the purchase price from your supplier's invoice. For a company registered for VAT it is the net price.
  • The Allegro commission, the category rate times the price with the delivery cost, and on free Smart! delivery times the price alone. Rates run from 1% to 17% net, and in part of the categories the commission has a maximum amount. The rates and examples are in the guide Allegro commission in 2026.
  • The Smart! fee or shipping. For a Smart! parcel you pay Allegro a fee that depends on the order value and the delivery method, from 0.79 zł to 11.89 zł in 2026. The fee table is in the guide Allegro Smart! fees for sellers in 2026. Outside Smart! the cost is what you pay the carrier, and what the buyer paid for delivery goes into revenue.
  • Packing and handling, the box, filler, tape and label, and if you pay someone to pack, that work too.
  • Advertising, the spend on Allegro Ads and on featuring offers, spread over the units sold. Featuring an offer costs 19.90 zł gross per 10 days in Allegro's price list, plus an additional commission on the sale of a featured offer.
  • Returns. Part of your sales comes back, and what counts is repacking the returned item, stock you cannot sell again at full price and the return parcel outside Smart!. On a Smart! return filed through the return form, Allegro pays for the return parcel. When a sale did not go through you can also get the commission back, as the guide How to get the Allegro commission back after a return describes.

Fixed costs, for example your warehouse, accounting, software and an Allegro subscription (from 49 zł gross per 30 days for the Basic one), do not belong to one sale. Subtract them from the profit of the whole month, not from each unit.

How do you calculate the margin when your company is registered for VAT?

Prices on Allegro are gross, because that is what the buyer pays. A company registered for VAT passes the VAT on sales to the tax office, so its revenue is the net price. At a 23% rate that is the gross price ÷ 1.23.

Count the costs on the same side, net. The commission in Allegro's price list is already net, and Allegro adds 23% VAT to it on the invoice, so 4.5% net is 5.54% gross. You deduct that VAT, so the margin takes the net commission. For the other Allegro fees, the Smart! fee included, the net amount and the VAT are on the Allegro invoice. The purchase price of the goods comes net from your supplier's invoice.

A company outside VAT counts everything gross. Its revenue is the whole price, and its costs are the commission with VAT and the purchase price with VAT, because it cannot deduct that VAT.

The most common mistake is mixing the two, gross revenue with net costs. That margin comes out too high, because the VAT you pass to the tax office stays in the profit. The lamp in the example below would then show a 45.1% margin instead of 32.5%.

A worked margin example

An invented shop sells the Lumo desk lamp for 199 zł gross. The shop is registered for VAT, the lamp is rated at 23% VAT and its category has an 11% commission. The buyer has Allegro Smart!, gets free delivery to an Allegro One Box locker, and the shop sends the lamp in one parcel. The numbers are made up for the example, and the rates and fees come from Allegro's price list.

Item How to calculate Net amount
Revenue 199 zł ÷ 1.23 161.79 zł
Cost of goods purchase price from the supplier's invoice 70.00 zł
Allegro commission 199 zł × 11%, no delivery cost because delivery is free 21.89 zł
Smart! fee the full amount from Allegro's table for an order from 150 zł to an Allegro Delivery locker 7.99 zł
Packing box, filler and label 2.40 zł
Advertising 600 zł net of Allegro Ads a month ÷ 120 lamps sold 5.00 zł
Returns 5 lamps in 100 come back, each return costs 40 zł 2.00 zł
Profit revenue minus all the costs 52.51 zł

The margin is 52.51 zł ÷ 161.79 zł × 100% = 32.5%. The markup on the same lamp is 52.51 zł ÷ 70 zł × 100% = 75%.

The example counts the Smart! fee at the full amount from Allegro's table. If on your Allegro invoice this fee carries VAT you can deduct, the net cost is lower and the profit higher by as much.

The same lamp in a shop outside VAT has a revenue of 199 zł, a commission with VAT of 21.89 zł × 1.23 = 26.92 zł and the cost of goods with VAT from the supplier's invoice.

Now see what a price cut does. The lamp at 149 zł gross has a net revenue of 121.14 zł, a commission of 16.39 zł and a Smart! fee of 6.19 zł, because the order drops to the band from 100 zł to 149.99 zł. With the other costs unchanged, the profit falls to 19.16 zł and the margin to 15.8%. A price lower by 50 zł, a quarter, cut the profit by more than 60%.

How do you check the margin of every order without a spreadsheet?

The fees and commissions calculator in Allegro's Sales Center calculates the Allegro fees for one unit sold of an offer. A spreadsheet like the one above has to be corrected every time a price, a Smart! band or a carrier rate changes.

Salecare calculates the margin of every order automatically. It takes the commission, the Smart! fees and the promotion fees from the Allegro settlements, and you enter only the costs on your side, the purchase prices, your own carriers' rates, packing, returns and fixed costs. How to set them up is in the guide Real Allegro margin in 2026, how to set up costs in Salecare, and what comes of it on the screens is on the Real margin page.
